  • Where can I return my bottle(s)?

  • What is the plug on top of my milk when I open my glass bottle?
  • That is the cream! We do not homogenize our milk allowing the cream to rise to the top naturally. When opening your bottle we suggest you shake the bottle. We have customers shove it down in with a butter knife and others that take it out with a spoon and put it in their coffee. Whatever your style, enjoy the rich creamy taste.

  • How does Sheldon Creek Dairy milk compare to raw milk?
  • Pasteurization is required by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) to kill potentially harmful microorganisms. Raw milk is not pasteurized and illegal to sell in Canada. Sheldon Creek Dairy’s pasteurization method complies with all CFIA regulations and has always passed quality and safety inspections For our pasteurization process we gently heat the milk to 73 degrees Celsius for just 16 seconds. We do not homogenize our milk which is breaking down the cream into small particles.

  • For those loyal customers looking for their cream-top milk: Why is their no cream on top of my milk?
  • Recently, we have had a few customers who regularly buy our products, when they open their milk, there was no cream (yet). Here is the real reason why the cream wasn't there: Currently we are processing milk 2-3 times weekly and shipped to stores either the same day or the following day. If you buy milk that has been produced by the cow only a few days ago, it is so fresh that it hasn't had time to separate yet. This can take up to 5 days sitting on the shelf. If you give it time to settle in your refrigerator then the cream plug should have time to form.

  • Why is Vitamin D3 added to Sheldon Creek Dairy milk?
  • Vitamin D3 helps your body absorb calcium. It is added to our milk, chocolate milk and egg nog to increase your body’s capacity to absorb the calcium contained within the products. It is required by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to be added to all fluid milk products.

  • What other products do you make?
  • We are your one stop shop for dairy products. We craft our whole milk, chocolate milk and yogurt line right here at the farm. Our yogurt is a greek style made with natural ingredients. We make the yogurt in a variety of flavours from plain and vanilla to raspberry maple. We also carry Alliston Creamery Butter, crafted just 10 mins away from our farm as well as Primeridge Pure cheese, artisan cheese made by our daughter in law and son (www.primeridgepure.ca)

  • How much does a cow milk every day?
  • On average our cows milk 35 liters of milk per day. We do have a few cows that milk between 50 and 60 liters each day.

  • How old is our oldest cow?
  • Our oldest cow is named Merle, she is 12 years old and has produced over 120,000 liters of milk in her lifetime. She is a Holstein cow(black and white one).

  • Does Sheldon Creek Dairy give their cows any artificial hormones?
  • We never use drugs to increase milk production in our animals. Our cows are naturally happy, grazing freely in grass pastures during warm months, and enjoying corn, hay, and silage grown on our farm - during the winters. Because our cows are artificial hormone-free, so is our milk.

  • Do you give your cows antibiotics?
  • Happy cows stay healthy most of the time. However, when there is a case when a cow will get an infection, mainly mastitis, we do treat the cow with an antibiotic but it is milked separate from the herd and that milk is discarded. We return the cows milk back to food production only after the required milk withdrawal time has been met. Every load of milk brought into our plant is tested for antibiotics.
